A Sex Pistols egy angol punkegyüttes, amit 1975-ben Londonban alapítottak. Az együttes eredetileg Johnny Rotten énekesbõl, Steve Jones gitárosból, Paul Cook dobosból és Glen Matlock (késõbb Sid Vicious veszi át a helyét) basszusgitárosból állt. Annak ellenére, hogy a kezdeti karrierjük csak három évig tartott, és csak négy kislemezt és egy stúdióalbumot adtak ki, a Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistolst, a Sex Pistolst a BBC „döntõ angol punk rockegyüttesnek” nevezte. A The Pistolsnak tulajdonítják a punkmozgalom elindítását az Egyesült Királyságban, és hogy létrehozta az elsõ generációs szakadékot a rock and rollban.A The Sex Pistols úgy jelent meg mint egy válasz a tapasztalható „növekvõen biztonságos és duzzadt” progresszív rockra és a gyártott popzenére a 70-es évek közepén. Több vitát váltottak ki rövid karrierjük alatt, ami meghódította Angliát, de elhalványította a zenéjüket. Koncertjeik és turnéik alatt többször ütköztek össze a hatósággal, nyilvános szereplésük sokszor katasztrófába és lázadásba torkollott. 1977-es kislemezüket, a God Save the Queent széles körben támadásnak tekintették a brit monarchia és nacionalizmus ellen.Rotten 1978-ban elhagyta az együttest, egy féktelen turné közben az USA-ban. A megmaradt trio folytatta az év hátralévõ részében, ekkor Jones énekelt, majd Edward Tudor-Pole és Ronnie Biggs. 1979-ben feloszlottak. Lydonnal újraegyesültek 1996-ban a Filthy Lucre turnéra, és késõbb többször is játszottak újabb, és újabb turnékat 2002-ben, 2003-ban és 2007-ben. 2006. február 24-én a The Sex Pistolst hivatalosan is beiktatták a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-be, de elutasították, hogy elmenjenek és a múzeumot „húgyfolt”-nak nevezték.
